Writing this, I'm reminded of why I fell in love with photography in the first place. It's about capturing moments and emotions, about telling stories, and about connecting with people. Sometimes, it takes an unexpected source, like an AI, to rekindle that realization and inspire us to see our work with fresh eyes.

As we crossed the threshold into 2023, I set a goal for myself. After years of creating short films for brands and organizations, I wanted to venture into the music space and merge the cinematic storytelling I'm known for with the powerful language of music. Little did I know, a call would soon come that would bring this dream to fruition.

I am thrilled to share with you an extraordinary journey I embarked on recently. It was a voyage into the heart of a mesmerizing art exhibit, 'Mariposa Relámpago' by Guadalupe Maravilla, currently on display at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston and curated by Ruth Erickson. As the creator, alongside Kris Wilton, of the introduction video for this exhibit, I had the unique opportunity to delve deep into the essence of Maravilla's work and bring it to life through the lens of my camera.

I had the privilege of capturing the recent event celebrating the partnership between the New England Conservatory (NEC) and the City of Boston to enhance music education for Boston's children. Held at the Ellis Early Learning Center in the South end, the event was attended by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and other community leaders, as well as a group of excited young musicians.

As a professional in the industry, I embrace these changes and am excited to continue refining my approach to visual storytelling in the new year.

I also learned that while executive portraits may seem cookie cutter and basic on the outside, there is still an intangible aspect that separates the mundane from the great photograph. Just like every form of photography, the key to creating meaningful and authentic images is building a connection with the subject.

The big question everyone has once they experience the limitless powers of these early AI models is, what will happen to all the jobs...what will happen to my job?

Through documentary filmmaking, we are able to create something truly beautiful and enduring. We are able to capture the essence of who we are and the people around us, creating a lasting record of our humanity.

In that moment of connection, something magical happens. The photographer and the subject become one, united in the shared experience of creating art. We are able to capture not just a person's physical likeness, but their very soul.
