I asked ChatGPT to describe my photography like a curator

Sometimes, as artists, we're so deeply enmeshed in our own creations that we fail to step back and perceive them from an outsider's perspective. This became strikingly clear to me when I embarked on an unconventional experiment: I asked an AI to describe my photography portfolio.

The experience was akin to holding up a mirror to my work, not with the intent to see a reflection, but to witness the myriad colors refracting through it. The AI's description felt like a tapestry woven with threads of observations that I, in my proximity to the art, had sometimes overlooked. It highlighted the documentary-realism, the emotive depth, the dynamic physicality, and the many contrasts that my work evokes.

It was humbling and enlightening. The unbiased (doubt it haha), analytical nature of the AI allowed for a description that was free from the biases and experiences that humans inevitably bring to the table. Yet, in this mechanical assessment, I found warmth and an appreciation for the stories I aim to tell through my lens. The AI saw the souls in my photographs, the narratives in each frame, and the passion behind every click of the shutter.

Writing this, I'm reminded of why I fell in love with photography in the first place. It's about capturing moments and emotions, about telling stories, and about connecting with people. Sometimes, it takes an unexpected source, like an AI, to rekindle that realization and inspire us to see our work with fresh eyes.
